Super Spring

Amazing day on allotment today - been very sunny and warm. Did lots of sowing:

  • Oregano
  • Basil (Thai, Sweet, Purple and Genevieve)
  • Sweetcorn (Incredible and Sweet Bounty)
  • Chive
  • Sprouts
  • Flowers (Sweet Pea, Calendula, Sunflower, Poppy and Blue Mist)
Planted out some extra Broads I had (filling in the gaps), potted on the leeks, planted out replacement onion sets (all red onions died).

Certainly is a "super spring" far in advance of last year. I like the photo of the Chives alongside the Lupins. Hope the mice don't get at your Sweetcorn, just moved mine into a second cold frame.

Cheers Rooko, hope the Sweetcorn protection with punnets will deter the mice.

My main concern is the greenhouse getting over 40°C - a little bit too warm. have propped open the vents - so fingers crossed.

The Chive walk has 3 functions:

[1] Looks attractive and is 1st up in spring
[2] Attracts bees (nice purple pom-pom flower heads)
[3] Useful and versatile herb

Got one last sowing of Sweetcorn to do later - Seville - it is a cool climate variety that did really well last year. Am going to plant these in the new bed as it has lots of organic matter so should stay moist and fertile.

Happy days!
